Matthew "Rad" Lowery is a native of the Grand Strand area, where he graduated from Socastee High School and then went on to earn degrees in both Accounting and Finance from Coastal Carolina University. Upon graduating from CCU, he relocated to Greenville, SC, and began his professional career as a CPA with Deloitte, Touche, and Tohmatsu. During his tenure with Deloitte, he worked within assurance and advisory services as audit staff and later was promoted to senior auditor. After numerous years in the corporate world, Rad decided to shift his career focus and return home to help smaller businesses and individuals with their tax and financial decisions. Rad began working for a local CPA firm, where he began strategically integrating the firm's tax services with the financial services industry. During 2009, he started his own registered investment advisor (RIA), facilitating the ability to offer independent financial planning services to the public. In 2014, he merged businesses with his long-time friend and Coastal Carolina University classmate Christopher St. John, which now operates under the name Carolina Wealth Advisors, LLC (CWA). CWA incorporates a comprehensive planning approach for individuals and their businesses with investment planning needs, portfolio management, income strategies, estate and tax planning, and capital allocation decisions.
Rad is a CFA charter holder, Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Personal Financial Specialist (PFS), and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®). He has served on The Center for Counseling & Wellness BOD since 2019. During 2015 he completed his Master's degree in Finance (MFIN) from The Pennsylvania State University.
